With the release of the OneBlade in 2016, Philips breathed new life into the razors of the time. The fact that this model is starting to show its age (10 years already!) allows the brand to sell it at an unbeatable price in 2026.

The Philips OneBlade is presented as a hybrid solution between a razor and a trimmer. Its slim design and oscillating blade have earned it some popularity (I have two myself, after all). Initially designed for the face, many people also use it on their intimate areas, but because cuts were common, Philips eventually introduced a special intimate-area guard.

Our Real Experience with the OneBlade
After several tests on different types of hair and skin, here is what we observed:
What we liked
The waterproof feature is a significant advantage, allowing use in the shower when the skin is already prepared.
The ergonomic design makes it easy to hold, which is helpful for hard-to-reach areas.
The light weight (around 100 g) reduces fatigue during prolonged use.
The price, the basic OneBlade is truly affordable (around thirty euros), although the different versions quickly drive up the price.
The dual-direction blade, the Philips OneBlade’s design allows the blade to be used in both directions. This is a plus, but in practice, it is not particularly useful or essential.
What we liked less
Difficulty with longer hair. The OneBlade struggles to cut hair that has already grown somewhat long, requiring several passes that increase the risk of irritation.
Real risk of cuts. Despite the advertised protective technology, we noticed many small cuts when using it without a guard, even when proceeding carefully. These cuts occurred particularly often in intimate areas where the skin is thin.
It gets stuck where there is “too much” hair.In the densest areas (or with thick hair), we found that the blade was unable to handle the amount or coarseness of the hair. This can be a major problem in certain areas and, for example, prevents beard use.
Limited battery life. The advertised 30 minutes is enough for one or two shaves without any problem, but beware of a dead battery if you have not used it for a long time—the risk is that it will be discharged precisely when you need it... We also noticed that when the battery is low, the blade does not cut as well.
A restrictive charging system. The proprietary port means you always need to have the specific charger within reach, and this was our biggest problem. Several times, we took it on trips and ended up with no battery and no charger, leaving us with a useless device (and unable to shave). Even at home, it means having one more charger just for this device and, of course, being unable to find it when we need it...
A little anecdote: I had to buy a second Philips OneBlade because I had lost the charger for the first one... Really frustrating!
No built-in light. After getting used to having an integrated LED, I have to admit that I now miss having a light on the other models.

Here we are testing the basic version, but some premium versions include a body guard specifically designed with additional skin protection.
The pack also includes a replacement blade in some configurations, with Philips recommending that the blade be changed every 4 months for optimal performance. The standard version does not include a travel case, which can be problematic for transportation and partly explains the reported issues with misplaced chargers. Above all, there is no travel lock (yes, it started vibrating in my bag at the airport 😂).

Philips offers a specific guard for intimate areas because, as mentioned above, it is difficult to avoid cutting yourself with the blade alone. We tested it as well and have no complaints; it does a fairly good job of preventing cuts.
Introduced after the OneBlade, the intimate-area guard was added because using the blade alone caused too many cuts, while many people wanted to use the OneBlade on intimate areas. In any case, its blade was more suitable than a beard or hair trimmer. Even so, this guard leaves the hair considerably longer.
What about the Philips OneBlade Intimate?
Differences from the original OneBlade
In terms of design, it is almost the same. Philips advertises enhanced protection for intimate areas.
The “enhanced protection” advertised for the Philips OneBlade Intimate consists of several features designed to limit cuts, nicks, and irritation on the highly sensitive skin of intimate areas:

What the reality is
This version of the OneBlade designed for intimate areas looks more like a marketing move by Philips, which realized how much people wanted to use the Philips OneBlade for their intimate areas and were regularly cutting themselves.
In step 1, they released the special intimate-area guard mentioned above, but they realized they had everything to gain by making a few modifications to their best seller.
The SkinProtect blade only introduces a new design, which ultimately addresses a problem we did not encounter in practice: the old square edges were not particularly aggressive, and they were not what caused the reported cuts.
The special 3 mm guard remains the best way to avoid cuts, but once again, this was already possible thanks to the intimate guard of the original OneBlade.
In short, the OneBlade Intimate is the OneBlade redesigned to be marketed specifically for intimate areas, with a specific design (which we prefer, by the way...)

This is a point that is not discussed often enough: the OneBlade, including its Intimate version, is designed to shave short, very short, or not at all. The guard supplied with the OneBlade Intimate is a safety guard, not a styling guard. It is there to prevent the blade from touching the skin directly and thus avoid the cuts the blade itself could cause, not to let you choose your length.
In practical terms, if you want to maintain your intimate hair without shaving it off—something between 3 and 12 mm—the OneBlade does not really give you that option. The philosophy is simple: short or nothing. This is not a flaw in itself, but it is a choice to be aware of before buying. This considerably limits its range of uses, because the pubic area and the rest of the intimate areas do not necessarily need to be the same length or have the same style.
What are the criticisms of the Philips OneBlade Intimate?
- The triple protection of the new blade adds protection against new risks, but only against problems that were not particularly common in the first place. Proof of this is that the 3 mm guard remains Philips's recommended safest option.
- The advertised USB-A is more of a marketing claim than anything else, since only the charger-side connector is USB; the device-side cable remains 100% proprietary. So if you forget or lose this cable, you will not be able to charge your OneBlade.
- 30 minutes of runtime for 8 hours of charging is still very poor. Obviously, that is enough for one shave, but do you really want to recharge your trimmer after every use? (Especially if you have to leave it plugged in for 8 hours with a proprietary cable...)
Conclusion on the OneBlade Intimate
We reach roughly the same conclusion as with the original OneBlade. If its weak points are not issues for you or do not bother you, and you like the design of this trimmer, it remains a good product.
For us, even though we much prefer this Intimate model's more understated design, it is still a definite no because of its proprietary cable, short battery life, and blade, which remains exactly the same and can only be used with a guard.
And for those who already have the original model with its different guards, you will not notice any difference with the Intimate, so there is no need to switch unless you can no longer stand the yellow and black ;) In any case, it is a shame that Philips did not develop the Intimate product further, but its reasoning is understandable: why change a formula that is already highly profitable?

Personal review
I find the Philips OneBlade very useful for short beards because it cuts closer than the billy. However, if I have let it grow too long, it is impossible to shave everything with this Philips—there is too much hair, and it gets stuck. My biggest downside with this trimmer is the proprietary charger; that remains an incredibly frustrating flaw in 2026, especially since the battery does not last that long. As I mentioned earlier, I had to buy a complete OneBlade again because I had lost the original charger... Quite a predicament. For intimate areas, the guard provided does the job, but like the rest of the trimmer, I do not necessarily leave it out in my bathroom; it is a matter of personal taste, but the shape and color of this OneBlade are not for me. I personally replaced my OneBlade with a billy, and I am very happy with it: it is always charged (sitting on its base) and always within reach because I think it looks great in my bathroom. Okay, it cuts a little less closely than the OneBlade, but it is still much faster, even with a high hair density. Personally, I tested the billy on a well-grown beard (over 10 mm), and it worked perfectly, but some user reviews from people who apparently have very coarse beard hair seem to report more difficulties. Still, the billy was not originally designed for beards ;p
