In 2025, intimate care has become a more open topic, and the tools available have multiplied. The Philips OneBlade is often mentioned as an option for intimate care. But what's the truth? Here's our full review of this device for sensitive skin care.
The OneBlade: General Presentation
The Philips OneBlade is a hybrid solution between a razor and a trimmer. Its slim design and oscillating blade have earned it a certain popularity (I have two of them, as proof). Initially designed for the face, many people also use it for their intimate areas, but because of the many cuts, they finally offered a special intimate attachment.
What Philips Promises
- Protection against irritation thanks to SkinProtect technology
- Shaving possible in all directions
- Underwater use (IPX7 certification)
- 30 minutes of battery life after 8 hours of charging
Our Real Experience with the OneBlade
After several tests on different hair and skin types, here is what we found:
What we liked
The waterproof aspect is a significant point, allowing use in the shower where the skin is already prepared.
The ergonomic design makes it easy to grip, which is great for hard-to-reach areas.
The light weight (approximately 100g) limits fatigue during prolonged use.
The price, the basic OneBlade is really affordable (around thirty euros) although the different versions quickly increase its price
The dual-directional blade design of the Philips One Blade allows the blade to be used in both directions. This is a plus, but in practice, it's not particularly useful/essential.
What we liked less
Difficulty with longer hairs . The OneBlade struggles to effectively cut hairs that are already a bit long, requiring multiple passes which increases the risk of irritation.
Real risk of cuts . Despite the advertised protection technology, we noticed a lot of micro-cuts when using it without a shoe, even when proceeding carefully. These cuts particularly occurred in intimate areas where the skin is thin.
It gets stuck where there is "too much" hair. In denser areas (or with thick hair), we found that the blade couldn't handle the amount or coarseness of the hair. This can be a major problem in some areas and prevents it from being used on beards, for example.
Limited battery life . The advertised 30 minutes is enough for a shave or two without any problems, but beware of battery failure if you haven't used it for a long time, the risk of it being discharged at the exact moment you need it... We also noticed that when the battery is low, the blade no longer cuts as well.
A restrictive charging system . The proprietary port requires always having the specific charger at hand and this was our biggest problem. Several times, taking it on a trip, we found ourselves without a battery and without its charger and therefore with a useless device (and the impossibility of shaving). Even at home, this gives us one more charger just for this device and, obviously, impossible to find it when we need it... As a little anecdote: I had to buy a second Philips OneBlade because I had lost the charger for the first one...
No built-in light . After getting used to having a built-in LED, I admit that I now miss the light on other models.
Accessories Supplied with the OneBlade
The Philips OneBlade comes with several accessories that complement its functionality. The box usually includes a proprietary (non-USB) charger, which, as we've seen, is a weak point.
The device also comes with 2 to 4 combs of different lengths (depending on the model): no complaints, they are quite practical to put on and take off although they seem a little fragile. They range from 1mm to 5mm, allowing you to maintain a uniform hair length but this limits your styling choices quite a bit. Here we are testing the basic version but some premium versions include a specifically designed body comb with additional skin protection.
The pack also includes a spare blade in some configurations, although Philips recommends changing the blade every 4 months for optimal efficiency. There's no travel case in the standard version, which can be problematic for transport and partly explains the misplaced charger issues mentioned, and most importantly, there's no travel mode (yes, it started vibrating in my bag at the airport 😂).
One Blade: The special shoe for sensitive/intimate areas
Philips offers a special comb for intimate areas, because as mentioned above, it's difficult to avoid cutting yourself with the blade alone. We tested it too and have no complaints; it prevents cuts quite well.
Intimate Trimmer: What You Really Need to Choose
Our experience shows that certain criteria are particularly important for the maintenance of intimate areas:
- Safety first (minimize outages)
- Adapting to different hair lengths
- Good visibility in hard-to-reach areas
- Sufficient autonomy
- Modern, non-proprietary connectivity!!
- Ease of cleaning
- The durability of the device
The Game-Changing Alternative: Billy
As an alternative to the OneBlade, the Billy trimmer represents a truly different approach to intimate care:
Its ceramic blade virtually eliminates the risk of cuts while remaining effective, even on longer hairs and thicker tufts. For our part, the shave was cut-free even in the most sensitive areas like the testicles. A few rare users noted a micro-cut the first time they used it, but the majority of users appreciated the safety of the Billy blade.
Its integrated LED lighting transforms the experience by allowing perfect visibility in all areas, limiting oversights and repeated passages.
Its superior autonomy allows several maintenance sessions without recharging.
Its universal USB-C charging is a practical advantage, especially when traveling.
Its elegant charging base protects the device and makes it easy to store discreetly in the bathroom.
Its incredible design and colors make all the difference for those who care about bathroom design. Finally, a trimmer that can be left out in the open and be proud of.
Personal opinion
I find the Philips OneBlade very useful for short beards because it cuts closer than the billy. On the other hand, if I let it grow too much, it's impossible to shave everything with this Philips, too much hair and it's blocked, it doesn't move forward anymore. My big minus for this trimmer: the proprietary charger, this remains a mega unbearable flaw in 2025, especially with a battery that doesn't last that long. As mentioned above, I was forced to buy a complete OneBlade because I had lost the initial charger... A shame all the same. For intimate parts, the proposed comb does the job, but like the rest of the trimmer, I don't necessarily leave them lying in my bathroom, it's a matter of personal taste but the shape and color of this OneBlade is not for me. I personally replaced my OneBlade with a billy and it suits me well: always charged (on its base) and always within reach because I find it great in my bathroom. Okay, it cuts a little less short than the OneBlade but still goes much faster even with a high hair density. Personally, I tested the billy on a beard that was already quite advanced (more than 10mm) and it works perfectly but some user reviews who apparently have very coarse beard hair seem to have more difficulty but hey... the billy is basically not made for beards ;p
Conclusion: Making the Right Choice for Yourself
Well, intimate grooming is a personal matter that deserves finding the tool that suits you best. If the Philips OneBlade suits you, with its strengths and weaknesses, then Go!
For our part (obviously) in terms of comfort, safety and general experience for sensitive areas, we obviously prefer the Billy mower.
The most important thing is to choose a tool that allows you to take care of yourself with confidence and security.
FAQ - Everything you wanted to know about OneBlade vs Billy
“I’m afraid of cutting myself with the OneBlade, is it really risky?”
It's a legitimate concern! Philips didn't originally design this OneBlade for intimate areas, and as our tests have shown, micro-cuts are common when using the OneBlade without a guard on sensitive areas. The thin skin of intimate areas is particularly vulnerable. That's why Philips ended up offering a special intimate guard that will prevent cuts.
“Is the OneBlade really practical for traveling?”
Not really, and that's one of its biggest drawbacks. With its proprietary charger, you'll always have to remember to take it with you (and not lose it!). The lack of a travel mode can also be a problem - imagine the OneBlade starting to vibrate in your suitcase at the airport... Yes, it happened to us! The Billy with its USB-C charging and travel mode is clearly better suited to traveling.
"Does the Billy cut as close as the OneBlade?"
No, the OneBlade cuts a hair closer without a guard (no pun intended). But this slight advantage is offset by the risk of cuts. With the Philipps's intimate guard, it's a tie. The Billy directly prioritizes safety while delivering very satisfactory results. It's a question of priorities!
“I have a thick beard, which trimmer should I choose?”
For beards, it's a little more complicated. The OneBlade is effective on short beards, but easily gets stuck on dense or long hairs. The Billy isn't designed specifically for the face, but some users have found success with it even on 10mm beards. It all depends on the thickness of your hair, but if beards are really a priority for you, there are 100% beard trimmers that are more suitable.
“What is the actual battery life of the OneBlade?”
The advertised 30 minutes are generally respected, but we noticed that the power decreases as the battery weakens. As a result, the last few minutes are less effective. The Billy offers significantly greater battery life and, above all, placed on its charging base, it is always ready to use (and at worst, your USB-C phone charger will charge it anywhere).
“Can you really use the OneBlade in the shower?”
Yes, this is one of the OneBlade's strong points. It's completely waterproof (IPX7 certified), just like the Billy blade. Both can be used in the shower without any problems.
“I lost my OneBlade charger, what are my options?”
Unfortunately, it's the classic OneBlade drama: either you buy a new one (quite difficult to find on your own but you can contact Philipps customer service), or... you buy a complete OneBlade. That's what I had to do! This is one of the big advantages of the billy with its USB-C: any compatible charger will do the trick.
"Does the Billy's LED really make a difference?"
Absolutely! You only realize the importance of good lighting after experiencing it. For areas that are hard to reach or not naturally visible, the Billy's integrated LED completely changes the experience. Once you've tried it, it's hard to live without it.
"Which lawn mower is the quietest?"
The Billy has the clear advantage in this area, its vibration is more discreet and more pleasant. The OneBlade emits a more high-pitched/metallic sound that is much less pleasant.
"Are these clippers suitable for both women and men?"
Absolutely! Both models are designed to be worn by everyone. The Billy still has a leg up in terms of inclusive design and color choices, but technically, both work equally well for women and men. The Billy has specifically chosen to be open to everyone.
“Design-wise, which one is the most discreet in my bathroom?”
A matter of personal taste, but the Billy was clearly designed to be proudly displayed. Its colors and sleek design make it an object that doesn't need to be hidden away. The OneBlade has a more "utilitarian" look that doesn't particularly stand out (or not in a good way).
