In 2026, intimate care has become a more open topic, and tools have multiplied. The Philips OneBlade is often mentioned as an option for intimate grooming. But what’s the real story? Here is our full review of this device for sensitive area care.
Update 2026
In 2026, the OneBlade remains true to itself; we still love it for the same qualities and still regret the same flaws, but it remains a 2025/2026 bestseller, so why would Philips change the formula?
With the OneBlade release in 2016, Philips managed to refresh the razors of the time. The fact that this model is starting to show its age (already 10 years!) allows the brand to sell it at an unbeatable price in 2026.
The OneBlade: General Overview
The Philips OneBlade presents itself as a hybrid solution between razor and trimmer. Its slim design and oscillating blade have earned it some popularity (proof: I have 2). Originally designed for the face, many people also use it for their intimate areas, but since cuts were frequent, they eventually offered a special intimacy guard.
What Philips Promises
- Protection against irritation thanks to SkinProtect technology
- Shaving possible in all directions
- Use under water (IPX7 certification)
- A 30-minute battery life after 8 hours of charging
Our Real Experience with the OneBlade
After several tests on different hair and skin types, here’s what we found:
What we liked
The waterproof feature is a significant point, allowing use in the shower where the skin is already prepared.
The ergonomic design makes it easy to hold, which is appreciated for hard-to-reach areas.
The light weight (about 100g) reduces fatigue during prolonged use.
The price, the basic OneBlade is really affordable (around thirty euros) although the different versions quickly raise the price.
The double-sided blade, the Philips OneBlade design allows the blade to be used in both directions. It's a plus but in practice, it’s not particularly useful or essential.
What we liked less
Difficulty with longer hairs. The OneBlade struggles to effectively cut hairs that are already somewhat long, requiring multiple passes which increase the risk of irritation.
Real risk of cuts. Despite the advertised protective technology, we noticed many micro-cuts when using it without a guard, even when proceeding carefully. These cuts occurred especially in intimate areas where the skin is thin.
It jams where there is "too much" hair. In the densest areas (or with thick hair), we found that the blade couldn’t handle the amount or toughness of the hair. This can be a major problem in certain areas and prevents use for beard trimming, for example.
Limited battery life. The advertised 30 minutes is enough for one or two shaves without issue, but beware of battery failure if you haven't used it for a long time—the risk is that it will be dead exactly when you need it... We also noticed that when the battery is low, the blade doesn’t cut as well.
A restrictive charging system. The proprietary port means you always need to have the specific charger on hand, and this was our biggest problem. Several times while traveling, we found ourselves without battery and without its charger, making the device useless (and impossible to shave). Even at home, it means one more charger just for this device and, of course, impossible to find it when you need it...
As a little anecdote: I had to buy a second Philips OneBlade because I lost the charger for the first one... Really frustrating!
No built-in light. After getting used to having an integrated LED, I admit I now miss the light on other models.
Accessories Provided with the OneBlade
The Philips OneBlade comes with several accessories that complement its use. In the box, you generally find the proprietary charger (non-USB), which is a weak point as we have seen.
The device also comes with 2 to 4 guards of different lengths (depending on the model): no complaints, they are quite easy to put on and take off even though they seem a bit fragile. They range from 1mm to 5mm, allowing you to maintain an even hair length but this limits your style choices quite a bit. Here we are testing the basic version, but some premium versions include a body guard specifically designed with extra skin protection.
The pack also includes a replacement blade in some configurations, knowing that Philips recommends changing the blade every 4 months for optimal performance. No travel case in the standard version, which can be problematic for transport and partly explains the reported issues with lost chargers, and especially, no travel mode (yes, it started vibrating in my bag at the airport 😂).
One Blade: The special guard for sensitive/intimate areas
Philips offers a specific guard for intimate areas, because as mentioned earlier, it's hard not to cut yourself with just the blade. We tested it as well and have nothing to complain about; it does a good job preventing cuts.
Arriving after the OneBlade, the intimate guard was introduced because the blade alone caused too many cuts and many wanted to use the OneBlade for intimate areas. Its blade was in any case better suited than a beard or hair trimmer. Still, this guard leaves a much longer hair length.
And the Philips OneBlade Intimate?
Differences with the original OneBlade
In terms of format, it’s almost the same. Philips announces enhanced protection for intimate parts.
The "enhanced protection" announced for the Philips OneBlade Intimate corresponds to several features aimed at limiting cuts, nicks, and irritation on the very sensitive skin of intimate areas:
SkinProtect blade: This blade has a "protective bridge" and rounded edges. The bridge acts as a physical barrier between the blade and the skin, preventing the blade from shaving too close and injuring the delicate skin. The rounded edges also reduce the risk of snagging or scratching the skin.
Special 3 mm guard: This is a removable accessory that clips onto the blade. It maintains a constant safety distance between the blade and the skin, preventing any direct contact and thus accidental cuts, especially on the genitals or underarms.
Width and shape of the head: The SkinProtect head is slightly wider than the classic blade, with side protections ("bumpers") that prevent the blade from touching the skin on the sides, making shaving even safer on delicate areas.
.
What it really is
This version of the OneBlade dedicated to intimate areas seems more like a marketing move by Philips, who realized how much people wanted to use the Philips OneBlade for their intimate parts and were regularly cutting themselves.
In step 1, they released the special intimate guard we saw earlier, but they realized they had everything to gain by making some changes to their bestseller.
The SkinProtect blade just brings a new design, which ultimately solves a problem we did not notice in use: the old square edges were not particularly aggressive and were not the cause of the reported cuts.
The special 3mm guard remains the best way to avoid cuts, but again, this already existed thanks to the intimate guard of the original OneBlade.
In short, the OneBlade Intimate is the OneBlade redesigned to be marketed as special for intimate areas with a specific design (which we actually prefer...)
Here is a small comparison table of what Philips states about the differences between these two shavers/trimmers:
| Criterion | OneBlade Classic | OneBlade Intimate |
|---|---|---|
| Blade | Standard | SkinProtect, triple protection |
| Guard(s) | Beard (variable lengths) | 3 mm guard special for sensitive areas |
| Water resistance | Yes (depending on model) | Yes (all Intimate models) |
| Ergonomics | Face/body | Intimate areas, curves, two-way |
| Battery life | 30 to 90 min (depending on model) | 30 min (Ni-MH, USB-A, 8h charging) |
| Blade replacement | About 4 months | About 4 months |
What do we criticize about the Philips OneBlade Intimate?
- The triple protection of the new blade adds new safeguards but only for issues that weren’t particularly common. The proof is that the 3mm guard remains the best Safe use option recommended by Philips.
- The advertised USB-A is more marketing than anything else since only the charger end is USB; the cable end that connects to the device remains 100% proprietary, so if you forget or lose this cable, you won’t be able to charge your OneBlade.
- 30 minutes of battery life for 8 hours of charging is still very low. Obviously, it’s enough for one shave, but do you really want to recharge your trimmer after every use? (especially if you have to leave it plugged in for 8 hours with a proprietary cable...)
Conclusion on the OneBlade Intimate
We come to roughly the same conclusion as with the original OneBlade. If its weaknesses aren’t an issue for you or don’t bother you, and you like the design of this trimmer, then it remains a good product.
For us, even though we much prefer the more understated design of this intimate model, it’s still a big no for that proprietary cable, the low battery life, and the blade that remains exactly the same and is only used with a guard.
And for those who already have the original with the various guards, you won’t notice any difference with the intimate, so no need to switch—unless you’re fed up with yellow and black ;) It’s a shame Philips didn’t develop the intimate product more, but understandable—why change a formula that’s already very profitable.
Intimate Trimmer: What You Really Should Prioritize
Our experience shows that certain criteria are especially important for intimate grooming:
- Safety first (minimizing cuts)
- Adaptability to different hair lengths
- Good visibility in hard-to-reach areas
- Sufficient battery life
- A modern, non-proprietary connection!!
- Ease of cleaning
- The device's durability
The Game-Changing Alternative: Billy
As an alternative to the OneBlade, the billy trimmer offers a truly different approach to intimate grooming:
Its ceramic blade virtually eliminates the risk of cuts while remaining effective, even on longer hairs and thicker patches. From our side, shavings were done without cuts even in the most sensitive areas like the testicles. A few rare users reported a micro-cut on the first use, but the majority appreciated the safety of the billy blade.
Its built-in LED light transforms the experience by providing perfect visibility in all areas, reducing missed spots and repeated passes.
Its superior battery life allows for several grooming sessions without recharging.
Its universal USB-C charging is a practical advantage, especially when traveling.
Its elegant charging base protects the device and makes discreet storage in the bathroom easy.
Its incredible design and colors make all the difference for those sensitive to design in their bathroom. Finally, a trimmer you can leave out in the open and be proud of.
Personal opinion
I find the Philips OneBlade very useful for a short beard because it cuts closer than the billy. However, if I let it grow too long, it’s impossible to shave everything with this Philips; too much hair and it gets stuck, it won’t move forward. My biggest downside for this trimmer: the proprietary charger, which remains a huge annoying flaw in 2026, especially with a battery that doesn’t last very long. As mentioned earlier, I had to buy a complete OneBlade again because I lost the original charger... Quite ironic. For intimate areas, the guard provided does the job, but like the rest of the trimmer, I don’t necessarily leave them out in my bathroom; it’s a matter of personal taste, but the shape and color of this OneBlade aren’t for me. I personally replaced my OneBlade with a billy and it suits me well: always charged (kept on its stand) and always within reach because I find it stylish in my bathroom. Okay, it cuts a bit less close than the OneBlade but still goes much faster even with dense hair. Personally, I tested the billy on a well-grown beard (over 10mm) and it works perfectly, but some user reviews with apparently very coarse beard hair seem to have more difficulty, but well... the billy wasn’t originally made for beards ;p
I find the One Blade ideal for the beard, especially for those who want a clean shave effect. For intimate areas, the small cuts are too frequent for me. And the style isn’t really to my taste, so I leave it in the closet.
Reviews of the One Blade Intimate (Amazon)
Overall on Amazon, the feedback is quite positive and mainly highlights the value for money; it’s definitely a good deal, especially if you find it on sale.
Customers also seem satisfied with the quality and ease of use (it's true you can't go wrong thanks to a very simple on/off system and a blade that can be removed quite easily like the guards).
Amazon customers mention that the blades get the job done and the product works well.
Customers appreciate its maneuverability, ergonomics, and good grip.
However, opinions are mixed regarding the cut quality, battery life, and durability.
We haven’t even touched on this, but indeed the durability of the guards needs improvement—we broke one of the guards during our tests. Regarding battery life and autonomy, we agree with those opinions, especially with Philips still using a proprietary charger.
Conclusion: Making the Right Choice for Yourself
Well, intimate grooming is a personal matter that deserves finding the tool that suits you best. If the Philips OneBlade works for you with its pros and cons, then go for it!
On our side (obviously), when it comes to comfort, safety, and overall experience for sensitive areas, we obviously prefer the billy trimmer.
The most important thing is to choose a tool that lets you take care of yourself with confidence and safety.
FAQ – Everything you wanted to know about the OneBlade vs billy
"I’m afraid of cutting myself with the OneBlade—is it really risky?"
That’s a valid concern! Originally, Philips didn’t design this OneBlade for intimate areas, and as our tests showed, micro-cuts are common when using the OneBlade without a guard on sensitive zones. The thin skin of intimate areas is especially vulnerable. That’s why Philips eventually offered a special intimate guard to prevent cuts. Regarding the OneBlade Intimate, aside from the special guard, the blade is the same and delivers the same results despite the addition of rounded tips (we’re still wondering why).
"What’s the difference between the OneBlade and OneBlade Intimate?"
The OneBlade Intimate is the new version, the evolution of the original OneBlade but this time dedicated to intimate areas. The changes seem too minor to call it a version made especially for intimate zones (rounded blade tips, etc.). Overall, they look very similar, and the biggest change is in the design, which we particularly appreciate.
"Is the OneBlade really practical for traveling?"
Not really, and that’s one of its biggest flaws. With its proprietary charger, you’ll always have to remember to bring it (and not lose it!). The lack of a travel mode can also be an issue—imagine the OneBlade vibrating in your suitcase at the airport... Yes, it happened to us! The billy, with its USB-C charging and travel mode, is clearly better suited for trips.
"Does the billy cut as close as the OneBlade?"
No, the OneBlade cuts hair closer without a guard (no pun intended). But this slight advantage is offset by the risk of cuts. With the Philips intimate guard, it’s a tie. The billy prioritizes safety while still delivering very satisfying results. It’s a matter of priorities!
"I have a dense beard, which trimmer should I choose?"
For beards, it’s a bit more complicated. The OneBlade is effective on short beards but easily gets stuck on dense or long hair. The billy isn’t specifically designed for the face, but some users successfully use it even on 10mm beards. It all depends on your hair’s coarseness, but if beard grooming is really a priority for you, there are 100% beard-specialized trimmers that are more suitable.
"What is the real battery life of the OneBlade?"
The advertised 30 minutes of battery life is generally respected, but we noticed the power decreases as the battery weakens. The result: the last few minutes are less effective. The billy offers significantly longer battery life and, especially, when placed on its charging base, it’s always ready to use (and at worst, your USB-C phone charger can recharge it anywhere).
"Can you really use the OneBlade in the shower?"
Yes, that’s one of OneBlade’s strengths. It’s fully waterproof (IPX7 certified), just like the billy. Both can be used in the shower without any problem.
"I lost my OneBlade charger, what are my options?"
Unfortunately, this is the classic OneBlade problem: either you buy a new one (which is quite hard to find alone, but you can contact Philipps customer service), or... you buy a complete new OneBlade. That’s actually what I had to do! One of billy’s big advantages with its USB-C is that any compatible charger will do.
"Does the billy’s LED really make a difference?"
Absolutely! You only realize the importance of good lighting after experiencing it. For hard-to-reach or naturally less visible areas, the billy’s built-in LED completely changes the experience. Once you’ve tried it, it’s hard to go without.
"Which trimmer is the quietest?"
The billy has a clear advantage here; its vibration is quieter and more pleasant. The OneBlade emits a higher-pitched/metallic sound that is much less pleasant.
"Are these trimmers suitable for both women and men?"
Absolutely! Both models are designed to be used by everyone. The billy still has a lead in terms of inclusive design and color choices, but technically, both work equally well for women and men. The billy has especially chosen to be open to all.
"In terms of design, which one is more discreet in my bathroom?"
A matter of personal taste, but the billy was clearly designed to be proudly displayed. Its colors and refined design make it an object you don’t need to hide. The OneBlade has a more "utilitarian" look that doesn’t particularly stand out (or not in a good way).
