We've been using the Philips OneBlade for years — both the original and the Intimate version. In 2026, it's still one of the most searched trimmers for pubic hair and sensitive areas. So here's our honest review: what it actually feels like to use it below the belt, where it works, and where it falls short.

Update 2026

In 2026, the OneBlade remains true to itself — we still love it for the same qualities and still regret the same flaws. But it remains a 2025/2026 bestseller, so why would Philips change the formula?

With the OneBlade release in 2016, Philips managed to refresh the razors of the time. The fact that this model is starting to get old (10 years already!) allows the brand to sell it at an unbeatable price in 2026.

The OneBlade: General Overview

The Philips OneBlade presents itself as a hybrid solution between razor and trimmer. Its slim design and oscillating blade have earned it some popularity (proof: I have 2). Originally designed for the face, many people also use it for their intimate areas — but since cuts were frequent, Philips eventually offered a special intimacy guard.

What Philips Promises

  • Protection against irritation thanks to SkinProtect technology
  • Shaving possible in all directions
  • Use under water (IPX7 certification)
  • A 30-minute battery life after 8 hours of charging

Our Real Experience with the OneBlade

After several tests on different hair and skin types, here is what we found:

What we liked

The waterproof feature is a significant point, allowing use in the shower where the skin is already prepared.

The ergonomic design makes it easy to hold, which is appreciated for hard-to-reach areas.

The light weight (about 100g) limits fatigue during prolonged use.

The price — the basic OneBlade is really affordable (around thirty euros), although the different versions quickly raise the price.

The double-sided blade — the Philips OneBlade design allows the blade to be used in both directions. It's a plus but in practice, not particularly useful or essential.

What we liked less

Difficulty with longer hairs. The OneBlade struggles to effectively cut hairs that are already a bit long, requiring multiple passes which increase the risk of irritation.

Real risk of cuts. Despite the advertised protection technology, we noticed many micro-cuts when using it without a guard, even when proceeding carefully. These cuts occurred especially in intimate areas where the skin is thin.

It gets stuck where there is "too much" hair. In the densest areas (or with thick hair), we found that the blade could not handle the amount or toughness of the hair. This can be a major problem in certain areas and prevents use on the beard, for example.

Limited battery life. The advertised 30 minutes are enough for one or two shaves without problem, but beware of battery failure if you haven't used it for a while. We also noticed that when the battery is low, the blade no longer cuts as well. In practice, the ratio of 8 hours of charging for 30 minutes of use is one of the most negatively commented points by OneBlade users — and we get why.

A restrictive charging system. The proprietary port requires always having the specific charger on hand — and this was our biggest problem. Several times while traveling, we found ourselves without battery and without the charger, making the device completely useless. Even at home, it means one more charger just for this device and, obviously, impossible to find it when you need it.

As a little anecdote: I had to buy a second Philips OneBlade because I lost the charger of the first one... Really frustrating!

No built-in light. After getting used to having an integrated LED, I admit I now miss the light on other models.

Accessories Provided with the OneBlade

The Philips OneBlade comes with several accessories that complement its use. In the box, you usually find the proprietary charger (non-USB), which is a weak point as we have seen.

The device also comes with 2 to 4 combs of different lengths (depending on the model): nothing to complain about, they are quite practical to attach and remove even though they seem a bit fragile. They range from 1mm to 5mm, allowing you to maintain a uniform hair length — but this limits your style choices quite a bit. Here we are testing the basic version, but some premium versions include a body comb specifically designed with extra skin protection.

The pack also includes a replacement blade in some configurations, knowing that Philips recommends changing the blade every 4 months for optimal efficiency. There's no travel case in the standard version, which can be problematic for transport — and there's no travel mode either (yes, it started vibrating in my bag at the airport 😂).

OneBlade: The Special Guard for Sensitive/Intimate Areas

Philips offers a specific guard for intimate areas, because as seen above, it's hard not to cut yourself with the blade alone. We tested it as well and have nothing to complain about — it prevents cuts quite well.

Arriving after the OneBlade, the intimate guard was introduced because the blade alone caused too many cuts and many people wanted to use the OneBlade for intimate areas. Its blade was in any case better suited than a beard or hair trimmer. Still, this guard leaves a much longer hair length.

And the Philips OneBlade Intimate?

Differences with the original OneBlade

In format, it's almost the same. Philips announces enhanced protection for intimate parts.

The "enhanced protection" announced for the Philips OneBlade Intimate corresponds to several elements aimed at limiting cuts, nicks, and irritation on the very sensitive skin of intimate areas:

SkinProtect blade: This blade has a "protective bridge" and rounded edges. The bridge acts as a physical barrier between the blade and the skin, preventing the blade from shaving too close and injuring the delicate skin. The rounded edges also reduce the risk of catching or scratching the skin.

Special 3mm guard: This is a removable accessory that clips onto the blade. It maintains a constant safety distance between the blade and the skin, which avoids any direct contact and therefore accidental cuts, especially on the genitals or underarms.

Width and shape of the head: The SkinProtect head is a bit wider than the classic blade, with side protections ("bumpers") that prevent the blade from touching the skin on the sides, making shaving even safer on delicate areas.

What it really is

Philips one blade intimate in its packaging

This version of the OneBlade dedicated to intimate areas looks more like a marketing move by Philips, who realized how much people wanted to use the Philips OneBlade for their intimate parts and were regularly cutting themselves.

In step 1, they released the special intimacy guard we saw earlier, but they realized they had everything to gain by making some changes to their bestseller.

The SkinProtect blade just brings a new design, which ultimately solves a problem we did not notice in use: the old square edges were not particularly aggressive and they were not the cause of the reported cuts.

The special 3mm guard remains the best way to avoid cuts — but again, this already existed thanks to the intimate guard of the original OneBlade.

In short, the OneBlade Intimate is the OneBlade revised to be marketed as special for intimate zones, with a specific design (which we actually prefer, by the way…)

Here's a small comparison table of what Philips states about the differences between these two shavers/trimmers:

Criterion OneBlade Classic OneBlade Intimate
Blade Standard SkinProtect, triple protection
Guard(s) Beard (variable lengths) 3mm guard special for sensitive areas
Water resistance Yes (depending on model) Yes (all Intimate models)
Ergonomics Face/body Intimate zones, curves, dual direction
Battery life 30 to 90 min (depending on model) 30 min (Ni-MH, USB-A, 8h charging)
Blade replacement About 4 months About 4 months

OneBlade Intimate: a "shave it all or nothing" philosophy

The blade of the Philips OneBlade Intimate

This is a point that doesn't get discussed enough: the OneBlade — including its Intimate version — is built to shave short, very short, or not at all. The guard it comes with is a safety guard, not a styling guard. It's there to stop the blade from touching the skin directly and causing cuts, not to give you a choice of length.

Practically speaking, if you want groomed intimate hair without going bare — something between 3 and 12mm — the OneBlade doesn't really give you that option. The philosophy is simple: close or nothing. That's not a flaw exactly, but it's something worth knowing before you buy, especially if you want to keep some length or play around with different styles.

What we'd criticize about the Philips OneBlade Intimate

  • The triple protection of the new blade adds new safeguards — but mainly for issues that weren't particularly common in the first place. The proof: the 3mm guard remains the safest option, as recommended by Philips themselves.
  • The advertised USB-A is more marketing than reality. Only the charger end is USB — the cable on the device side remains 100% proprietary. Lose that cable and you can't charge, full stop.
  • 30 minutes of battery life after 8 hours of charging is genuinely low. It's enough for one session, sure — but do you really want to plug in your trimmer after every single use, for 8 hours, with a cable you can't replace?

Conclusion on the OneBlade Intimate

We come to roughly the same conclusion as with the original OneBlade. If its weaknesses don't bother you and you like the design, it's still a decent product.

For us, even though we much prefer the cleaner look of this Intimate model, it's still a hard pass for that proprietary cable, the short battery life, and a blade that remains exactly the same — only usable with a guard.

And if you already own the original OneBlade with its guards, you won't notice any real difference with the Intimate. No need to switch — unless you're just tired of yellow and black ;)

Intimate Trimmer: What Really Matters

Our experience shows that certain criteria are especially important for intimate grooming:

  1. Safety first (minimizing cuts)
  2. Adaptability to different hair lengths
  3. Good visibility in hard-to-reach areas
  4. Sufficient battery life
  5. Modern, non-proprietary connectivity
  6. Ease of cleaning
  7. Device durability

Looking for something built specifically for intimate areas?

After testing the OneBlade extensively, we switched to the billy trimmer for intimate grooming — and the difference is real enough to mention here.

The ceramic blade handles sensitive skin without the micro-cuts we kept getting with the OneBlade, even without a guard. The built-in LED sounds like a gimmick until you actually use it — for hard-to-reach areas, it genuinely changes things. The USB-C charging means no proprietary cable to lose. And because it sits on a charging base, it's always ready when you need it.

It offers 5 cut lengths from 0 to 12mm, so you can actually choose your style rather than just defaulting to "as short as possible." That's a fundamentally different philosophy from the OneBlade.

It's more expensive at €79. But for daily intimate use, it's the tool we'd actually recommend — not because we made it, but because it solves the exact problems we kept running into with the OneBlade.

Personal Review

I find the Philips OneBlade very useful for a short beard because it cuts closer than the billy. However, if I let it grow too long, it's impossible to shave everything with this Philips — too much hair and it gets stuck. My biggest issue: the proprietary charger. It's a genuinely frustrating flaw in 2026, especially paired with a battery that doesn't last very long. As mentioned, I had to buy a complete new OneBlade because I lost the original charger. For intimate areas, the guard does the job, but I don't leave the OneBlade out in my bathroom — the shape and color just aren't for me. I replaced it with a billy and haven't looked back: it's always charged on its stand and always within reach. It cuts a little less close, but handles dense hair much faster. I even tested it on a 10mm+ beard and it worked fine — though if your beard hair is very coarse, a dedicated beard trimmer will serve you better.

I find the OneBlade ideal for the beard, especially for those who want a close shave. For intimate areas, the micro-cuts are too frequent for me. And the style isn't really to my taste, so it stays in the closet.

Customer Reviews on the OneBlade Intimate (Amazon)

Overall on Amazon, the feedback is quite positive and mainly highlights the value for money — it's a good deal, especially on sale.

Customers seem satisfied with the quality and ease of use: the on/off system is simple, the blade and guards come off easily.

Amazon customers mention that the blades do the job and the product works well.

Customers appreciate its maneuverability, ergonomics, and grip.

However, opinions are mixed on cut quality, battery life, and durability. We can confirm the guard durability issue — we broke one during our tests. And regarding the battery and proprietary charger, the Amazon reviews match our experience exactly.

Conclusion: Make the Right Choice for Yourself

Intimate grooming is personal, and the right tool depends on what matters most to you. If the Philips OneBlade works for you — with its pros and cons — then go for it.

For us, when it comes to comfort, safety, and day-to-day usability in sensitive areas, we prefer the billy trimmer. But the most important thing is choosing a tool that lets you take care of yourself with confidence.

FAQ — Everything you wanted to know about the OneBlade Intimate

Is the OneBlade Intimate actually safe for pubic hair and balls?

With the guard on, yes — it does a reasonable job of preventing cuts. Without the guard, micro-cuts are common, especially where the skin is thin. Philips themselves recommend always using the guard in intimate areas, which tells you a lot. The SkinProtect blade adds some protection but the guard remains the real safety net.

What's the difference between the OneBlade and the OneBlade Intimate?

The OneBlade Intimate is the evolution of the original, marketed specifically for intimate areas. In practice, the differences are minor — slightly rounded blade tips, a redesigned head, and a dedicated 3mm guard. The biggest real-world change is the design, which we genuinely prefer. But if you already own the original with its intimate guard, you won't notice much difference.

Is the OneBlade practical for travel?

Not really. The proprietary charger means you always have to bring a specific cable — and if you lose it, the device is useless until you track one down. There's no travel lock either, so it can switch on in your bag. The billy's USB-C charging and built-in travel lock make it a much better travel companion.

Does the billy cut as close as the OneBlade?

No — the OneBlade cuts closer without a guard. But that advantage comes with a real risk of cuts on sensitive skin. With the Philips intimate guard on, the results are roughly comparable. It comes down to priorities: closer cut vs. safer cut.

I have a thick beard — which trimmer should I choose?

For beards, the OneBlade works well on short, fine hair but gets stuck on dense or long growth. The billy isn't designed for the face, though some users do use it successfully on beards up to 10mm. If beard grooming is your main concern, a dedicated beard trimmer will serve you better than either of these.

What is the real battery life of the OneBlade Intimate?

The advertised 30 minutes is generally accurate, but performance drops as the battery weakens — the last few minutes cut noticeably less efficiently. For comparison, the billy offers 60 to 90 minutes per charge, recharges in under 2 hours via USB-C, and sits on a charging base so it's always ready to go.

Can you use the OneBlade Intimate in the shower?

Yes — it's IPX7 certified and fully waterproof, just like the billy. Both work fine in the shower.

I lost my OneBlade charger. What are my options?

Your options are limited: try to source a replacement through Philips customer service, or buy a new OneBlade altogether. That's what happened to us. It's the single most frustrating design choice on the device. With the billy's USB-C, any phone charger works as a backup.

Does the billy's LED actually make a difference?

More than you'd expect. For hard-to-see areas — especially when grooming solo — built-in lighting genuinely helps you work more accurately and avoid missed spots. Once you've used it, going back feels like a downgrade.

Which trimmer is quieter?

The billy, clearly. The OneBlade has a higher-pitched, slightly metallic sound. The billy's motor is noticeably quieter and less intrusive.

Do these trimmers work for women too?

Both work for anyone, regardless of gender. The billy has a slight edge in terms of inclusive design, color options, and the range of cut lengths available — but technically, both handle intimate grooming for all body types equally well.

Which one looks better in the bathroom?

Personal taste, but the billy was designed to be left out. Its colors and build quality make it something you'd actually want to display. The OneBlade has a more utilitarian look — functional, but not something most people would proudly leave on their bathroom shelf.
