The Razors for blade : Advantages and (Major) Drawbacks

Many men still use a razor for blade on their intimate areas. It’s understandable: it’s accessible, it seems inexpensive, and it allows for completely smooth skin. But what are the real risks?

The Advantages of the Razor

  • Ultra-close shave possible
  • Easily available everywhere
  • Low initial purchase price (well, of course, it depends on the model ...the new, somewhat trendy products are very expensive for manual razors)
  • No need for batteries or electricity

The Disadvantages

  • High risk of cuts (and here, it really hurts and could be serious)
  • Almost guaranteed irritation
  • Fast and uncomfortable regrowth
  • Risk of infections from cuts / micro-cuts
  • Frequent ingrown hairs

The "Safety" blades: Fact or Fiction?

You may have heard about safety razors as a more secure option. Here’s what you need to know.

The Promise of blade Safety?

We scoured the web to see what brands selling them have to say, and here’s what they mention about razor "blade safety":

  1. Limited exposure of the blade : Only a small portion of the blade is exposed—enough to shave, but not enough to cause serious injuries.
  2. Protective comb: The razor head features a comb that regulates the distance between the skin and the blade. This comb positions the hairs correctly in front of the blade while protecting the skin.
  3. Multi-piece structure: The safety razor is generally made up of three parts: the handle, the comb, and the head. The blade is placed between the closed comb and the head, which slightly curves it to optimize its efficiency while limiting its direct contact with the skin.
  4. Controlled shaving angle: The design of the razor guides the user to maintain an optimal shaving angle, reducing the risk of accidental cuts.

Well, the idea is good, and the selling point is solid in principle: less exposed blade = lower risk of deep cuts. Do you see what I mean? Less risk of deep cuts, but what about other cuts? 😭

And The Reality

So as you’ve understood, "safety" here does not mean "risk-free."

A sharp blade like that of a razor is still a blade. It can easily cause serious cuts, and clearly, we want to avoid that...

The safety razor can indeed reduce the risk of serious cuts, but do we really only want to avoid serious injuries? Especially on such a delicate area as the testicles....

In short, if you decide to switch to a "safe" razor for your intimate areas, be aware that safety is only relative and the risk remains the same as with other razors—a wrong move and it could end in disaster...

The Leading Brands

If you really still want to go with a razor, here are a few models you can look into:

The Classics

  • Merkur 34C: The historical benchmark
  • Edwin Jagger: Renowned British design
  • Mühle R41: For experts only
  • Feather Popular: The reliable Japanese model

The Newcomers

  • Gentleman Barbier: Made in France
  • Tatara: Innovative Portuguese design
  • Rockwell: Modern adjustable system

The Real Dangers to Know

However, if you’re not sure about putting such a sharp blade near your testicles, we understand—it’s really not something we want to do either....Because there are still a few drawbacks to using a razor to shave your balls:

Immediate Risks

  • cuts (from micro-nicks to more serious cuts)
  • Irritation and redness
  • Razor burn
  • Intense itching

Long-Term Risks

  • Infections due to micro-cuts
  • Recurring ingrown hairs
  • Increased risk of STIs (because of micro-lesions) according to this study
  • Changes in skin texture

The Advantages

Let’s still try to find a few advantages to using a razor to blade shave your intimate areas

  • Completely smooth shave (if you’ve got the technique) – it’s ultra clean. It won’t last long, but while it does, we get why you might enjoy it.
  • It’s supposed to be manly 😂 "A real man shaves his balls with a blade".No, we're just kidding, we're not in an 80s western—your manliness won't be enhanced (but if you cut yourself, it might hurt it though...)
  • It can look nice in your bathroom. It's a matter of style, but let's be honest, some of the "new" razors are pretty stylish and we approve (even though we definitely prefer our billys haha)

And if you really want to shave your intimate areas with a razor, here are a few tips

Alright, one last time (we're repeating ourselves), we prefer to be honest with you: using a razor on your testicles is really not the safest solution in 2025, nor is it the one we recommend. But if you absolutely want to try the experience, we really want you to minimize the risks, so here are a few tips:

First of All: Preparation is Crucial

Golden rule number one: take a good hot shower, not just a quick wash. The heat will soften the hair and relax the skin, making shaving less risky. Clean the area thoroughly with a gentle soap (not your scented shower gel, which could cause irritation).

VERY IMPORTANT: use a blade NEW ONE. Not a blade that’s been lying around in your shower for two weeks. The area is too sensitive to take that risk.

The Expert Technique

Here are the steps to follow carefully:

  • Apply a GENEROUS amount of shaving gel or shaving oil (oil is ideal because you can see what you’re doing)
  • Make sure the area you are shaving is well lit so you can see what you’re doing
  • Gently stretch the skin (like a sail, not like an elastic band)
  • ALWAYS shave in the direction of hair growth
  • Use SLOW and SHORT strokes
  • Rinse your blade after EACH pass
  • ZERO pressure on the razor (let it glide on its own)

Post-Shave Care

After shaving, you’re not done yet:

  • Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water
  • Pat dry (do not rub)
  • Apply a cream or lotion WITHOUT alcohol or fragrance
  • Wear cotton underwear (let your skin breathe)

The Golden Rules to NEVER Forget

  • Use a DEDICATED trimmer (yes, you need a trimmer just for this)
  • Always use an ultra-clean, sharp, and preferably NEW blade
  • Avoid tight clothing for 24 hours
  • If your skin says stop, listen to it
  • At the slightest sign of irritation, take a break
  • If it itches/burns for more than 48 hours = see a doctor

Honestly? These precautions may seem excessive, but your testicles deserve this level of care.Or... you could simply choose a safer and more modern solution like the trimmer billy. Just a suggestion... 😉

Why Take So Many Risks in 2025?

Let’s be honest: even if you follow all these tips to the letter, using a razor on your testicles remains a risky practice and really isn’t for everyone.

A Solution Designed for Your Sensitive Areas

When we created billy, we started with a simple observation: in 2025, it was time to have a tool specially designed for our most sensitive areas. Our ceramic blade is developed to prevent any cuts, even on the delicate skin of the testicles.

Why billy Changes Everything

  • An blade anti-cut concept
  • A design specially created for intimate areas
  • An integrated LED so you can see exactly what you're doing
  • Safe to use in the shower
  • Long-lasting battery
  • Incredible style for your bathroom
  • Maintenance in under 2 minutes
  • No preparation needed, no aftercare required

We won't tell you that the blade razor doesn't work. We're just saying that in 2025, your intimate areas might deserve better than a blade blade and some bandages.

The Choice is Yours

You can keep juggling blade razor blades and soothing creams, or choose a modern, stylish solution that lets you groom your intimate areas without stress or risk. It's up to you to decide what matters most: ultra-smooth skin for a few hours, or safe, quick, easy, and comfortable grooming?
