In 2025, intimate area grooming has become a more open topic, and the number of tools available has multiplied. The Philips Oneblade is often mentioned as an option for intimate grooming. But what is it really worth? Here is our comprehensive review of this device for sensitive area care.

The Oneblade: General Overview

The Philips Oneblade presents itself as a hybrid solution between a razor and a trimmer. Its slim design and blade oscillating blade have earned it a certain popularity (proof: I own two). Originally designed for the face, many people also use it for their intimate areas, but since cuts were frequent, they eventually offered a special attachment for intimate grooming.

What Philips Promises

  • Protection against irritation thanks to SkinProtect technology
  • Shaving possible in all directions
  • Usable under water (IPX7 certified)
  • 30 minutes of battery life after 8 hours of charging

Our Real Experience with the Oneblade

After several tests on different hair and skin types, here’s what we found:

What we liked

The waterproof feature is a significant advantage, allowing use in the shower where the skin is already prepared.

The ergonomic design makes it easy to handle, which is appreciated for hard-to-reach areas.

The lightweight (about 100g) reduces fatigue during prolonged use.

The price, the basic Oneblade is really affordable (around thirty euros) although the different versions quickly increase the price

The blade double-sided feature, the design of the Philips Oneblade allows you to use the blade in both directions. This is a plus, but in practice, it is not particularly useful or essential.

What we liked less

Difficulty with longer hairs. The Oneblade struggles to effectively cut hairs that are already a bit long, requiring several passes which increase the risk of irritation.

Real risk of cuts. Despite the advertised protective technology, we noticed many micro-cuts when using it without a guard, even when proceeding carefully. These cuts especially occurred in intimate areas where the skin is thin.

Gets stuck where there is "too much" hair. In the densest areas (or with thick hair), we found that the blade was unable to handle the quantity or toughness of the hair. This can be a significant issue in certain areas and prevents use on beards, for example.

Limited battery life. The advertised 30 minutes are sufficient for one or two shaves without any problem, but be careful of a dead battery if you haven't used it for a while—the risk is that it will be discharged at the exact moment you need it... We also noticed that when the battery is low, the blade does not cut as well.

A restrictive charging system. The proprietary port requires you to always have the specific charger on hand, and this was our biggest issue.Several times, while traveling, we found ourselves without battery and without its charger, resulting in a useless device (and the inability to shave). Even at home, it means one more charger just for this device and, of course, it's impossible to find it when you need it... As a little anecdote: I had to buy a second Philips Oneblade because I lost the charger for the first one...

No integrated light. After getting used to having a built-in LED, I must admit that I now miss the light on other models.

Accessories Provided with the Oneblade

The Philips Oneblade comes with several accessories that enhance its use. In the box, you generally find the proprietary charger (not USB), which is a weak point as we have seen.

The device also comes with 2 to 4 comb attachments of different lengths (depending on the model): nothing to complain about here, they are quite convenient to put on and take off, although they seem a bit fragile. They range from 1mm to 5mm, allowing you to maintain a uniform hair length, but this does limit your styling options. Here we are testing the basic version, but some premium versions include a body comb specifically designed with extra skin protection.

The pack also contains a replacement blade in certain configurations, knowing that Philips recommends changing the blade every 4 months for optimal performance. There is no travel pouch in the standard version, which can be problematic for transport and partly explains the issues with misplaced chargers mentioned, and above all, there is no travel mode (yes, it started vibrating in my bag at the airport 😂).

One blade: The special guard for sensitive/intimate areas

Philips offers a specific guard for intimate areas, because as mentioned above, it’s difficult not to get cut when using the blade alone. We tested it as well and have no complaints—it does a good job of preventing cuts.

And what about the Philips Oneblade Intimate?

The differences with the original Oneblade

In terms of design, it’s almost the same. Philips claims enhanced protection for intimate areas.

The “enhanced protection” announced for the Philips Oneblade Intimate refers to several features designed to reduce cuts, nicks, and irritation on the very sensitive skin of intimate areas:

blade SkinProtect: This blade features a “protection bridge” and rounded edges. The bridge acts as a physical barrier between the blade and the skin, preventing the blade from shaving too closely and injuring delicate skin. The rounded edges also reduce the risk of snagging or scratching the skin

.

Special 3 mm guard: This is a removable accessory that clips onto the blade. It maintains a constant safe distance between the blade and the skin, preventing any direct contact and thus accidental cuts, especially on the genital area or underarms

.

Width and shape of the head: The SkinProtect head is slightly wider than the classic blade , with side protections (“bumpers”) that prevent the blade from touching the skin on the sides, further securing shaving on delicate areas
.

What it really is

This version of the Oneblade dedicated to intimate areas seems more like a marketing move by Philips, who realized how much people wanted to use the Philips Oneblade for their intimate parts and were regularly cutting themselves.

In step 1, they released the special intimacy guard we saw above, but then realized they had everything to gain by making a few modifications to their best seller.

The blade SkinProtect just brings a new design, which ultimately solves a problem we did not notice in use: the old square edges were not particularly aggressive and were not the cause of the reported cuts.

The special 3mm guard remains the best way to avoid cuts, but once again, this already existed thanks to the intimate guard of the original Oneblade.

In short, the Oneblade Intimate is the Oneblade redesigned and marketed specifically for intimate areas, featuring a unique design (which we actually prefer, by the way)...)

Here is a small comparison table of what Philips states about the differences between these two shavers / trimmers :

Criteria Oneblade Classic Oneblade Intimate
blade Standard SkinProtect, triple protection
Comb(s) Beard (variable lengths) 3 mm comb specially for sensitive areas
Waterproofing Yes (depending on model) Yes (all Intimate models)
Ergonomics Face/body Intimate areas, curves, double direction
Battery life 30 to 90 min (depending on model) 30 min (Ni-MH, USB-A, 8h charging time)
Replacement blade Approx. 4 monthsAbout 4 months.

What are the criticisms of the Philips Oneblade Intimate?

  • That the triple protection of the new blade brings new safeguards, but only for issues that were not particularly present. The proof is that the 3mm guard remains the best Safe usage option recommended by Philips.
  • That the advertised USB-A is more of a marketing point than anything else, since only the charger side is USB; the device side of the cable is still 100% proprietary. So if you forget or lose this cable, you won’t be able to charge your Oneblade.
  • 30 minutes of battery life for 8 hours of charging is still very low.Evidemment c'est suffisant pour un rasage, mais est-ce que l'on a vraiment envie de remettre en charge sa trimmer après chaque utilisation ? (surtout s'il faut la laisser brancher 8h avec un câble propriétaire...)
  • Of course, it's enough for one shave, but do we really want to recharge our trimmer after every use? (Especially if it needs to be plugged in for 8 hours with a proprietary cable...)

Conclusion sur la Oneblade Intimate

Conclusion on the Oneblade Intimate

We come to pretty much the same conclusion as for the original Oneblade. If its weaknesses are not an issue for you or if they don't bother you and you like the design of this trimmer, then it remains a good product.

For us, even though we much prefer the more understated design of this intimate model, it's still a big no for this proprietary cable, the low battery life, and the blade which remains exactly the same and is only used with a guard.

And for those who already have the original with the different guards, you won’t notice any difference with the Intimate, so there’s no need to switch—unless you’re tired of the yellow and black ;) It’s a pity that the Intimate product wasn’t developed a bit further, but it’s understandable from Philips; why change a formula that’s already highly successful?

intimate trimmer : What You Should Really Prioritize

Our experience shows that certain criteria are particularly important for intimate area grooming:

  1. Safety first (minimizing cuts)
  2. Adaptability to different hair lengths
  3. Good visibility in hard-to-reach areas
  4. Sufficient battery life
  5. Modern, non-proprietary connectivity!!
  6. Ease of cleaning
  7. Device durability

The Game-Changing Alternative: Billy

As an alternative to the Oneblade, the trimmer billy offers a truly different approach to intimate grooming:

Its blade ceramic blade virtually eliminates the risk of cuts while remaining effective, even on longer hair and thicker patches. From our side, shaving was done without any cuts, even in the most sensitive areas such as the testicles. A few rare users reported a micro-cut during the first use, but the majority of users appreciated the safety of the blade billy .

Its integrated LED lighting transforms the experience by providing perfect visibility in all areas, reducing missed spots and the need for repeated passes.

Its superior battery life allows for multiple grooming sessions without recharging.

Its universal USB-C charging is a practical advantage, especially when traveling.

Its elegant charging base protects the device and makes it easy to store discreetly in the bathroom.

Its design and incredible colors make all the difference for those who care about aesthetics in their bathroom. Finally, a trimmer that you can leave out in plain sight and be proud of.

Personal opinion

I find the Philips Oneblade very useful for short beards because it cuts closer than the billy . However, if I let my beard grow too much, it’s impossible to shave everything with this Philips; there’s too much hair and it gets stuck, it just won’t move forward. My biggest downside for this trimmer : the proprietary charger, which remains a huge and unbearable flaw in 2025, especially with a battery that doesn’t last that long. As I mentioned earlier, I had to buy a whole new Oneblade because I lost the original charger... Quite frustrating, to say the least. For intimate areas, the included guard does the job, but like the rest of the trimmer , I don’t necessarily leave them out in my bathroom. It’s a matter of personal taste, but the shape and color of this Oneblade just aren’t for me.I have personally replaced my Oneblade with a billy and it suits me well: always charged (sitting on its stand) and always within reach because I find it looks great in my bathroom. Okay, it doesn’t shave quite as close as the Oneblade, but it’s still much faster, even with a high hair density. Personally, I tested the billy on a well-grown beard (over 10mm) and it works perfectly, but some user reviews from people with very coarse beard hair seem to have more difficulty. But then again... the billy wasn’t originally designed for beards ;p

Conclusion: Making the Right Choice for Yourself

Well, intimate grooming is a personal matter that deserves finding the tool that suits you best.If the Philips Oneblade suits you with its strengths and weaknesses, then go for it!

On our side (of course), when it comes to comfort, safety, and overall experience for sensitive areas, we obviously prefer the trimmer billy .

The most important thing is to choose a tool that allows you to take care of yourself with complete confidence and safety.

FAQ - Everything you wanted to know about the Oneblade vs billy

"I'm afraid of cutting myself with the Oneblade, is it really risky?"

That’s a legitimate concern! Philips did not originally design the Oneblade for intimate areas, and as our tests have shown, micro-cuts are common when using the Oneblade without a guard on sensitive zones. The thin skin of intimate areas is particularly vulnerable. That's actually why Philips eventually offered a special intimacy guard to help avoid cuts.

"Is the Oneblade really convenient for travel?"

Not really, and that's one of its biggest drawbacks. With its proprietary charger, you'll always have to remember to bring it (and not lose it!). The lack of a travel mode can also be an issue—imagine the Oneblade starting to vibrate in your suitcase at the airport... Yes, it happened to us! The billy , with its USB-C charging and travel mode, is clearly better suited for trips.

"Does the billy trim as close as the Oneblade?"

No, the Oneblade trims a bit closer without the guard (no pun intended). But this slight advantage is offset by the risk of cuts. With the Philips intimacy guard, it's about equal. The billy prioritizes safety while still delivering very satisfying results.Question of priorities!

"I have a thick beard, which trimmer should I choose?"

For beards, it's a bit more complicated. The Oneblade is effective on short beards, but it easily gets stuck on thick or long hair. The billy is not specifically designed for the face, but some users have successfully used it even on 10mm beards. It all depends on how coarse your hair is, but if your beard is truly a priority, there are trimmer s that are 100% specially made for beards and more suitable.

"What is the actual battery life of the Oneblade?"

The advertised 30 minutes is generally accurate, but we noticed that the power decreases as the battery runs low. As a result, the last few minutes are less effective.La billy offers significantly superior battery life and, most importantly, when placed on its charging base, it is always ready for use (and in the worst case, your USB-C phone charger can recharge it anywhere).

"Can you really use the Oneblade in the shower?"

Yes, that's one of the main advantages of the Oneblade. It is completely waterproof (IPX7 certified), just like the billy for that matter. Both can be used in the shower without any problem.

"I've lost my Oneblade charger, what are my options?"

Unfortunately, this is the classic Oneblade issue: either you buy a new one (which is quite hard to find on its own, but you can contact Philips customer service), or... you buy a complete new Oneblade. That's actually what I had to do! This is one of the major advantages of the billy with its USB-C: any compatible charger will do the job.

"Does the LED on the billy really make a difference?"

Absolutely! You only realize the importance of good lighting after you've experienced it. For hard-to-reach or naturally less visible areas, the integrated LED of the billy completely transforms the experience. Once you've tried it, it's hard to go without.

"Which trimmer is the quietest?"

The billy has a clear advantage in this area, with a more discreet and pleasant vibration. The Oneblade emits a higher-pitched, more metallic sound that is much less pleasant.

"Are these trimmer s suitable for both women and men?"

Absolutely! Both models are designed to be used by everyone. The billy does have a slight edge in terms of inclusive design and color options, but technically, both work just as well for women as for men.

La billy has specifically chosen to be open to everyone.

"In terms of design, which one is the most discreet in my bathroom?"

It's a matter of personal taste, but the billy was clearly designed to be displayed proudly. Its colors and refined design make it an object you don't need to hide. The Oneblade has a more "utilitarian" look that doesn't particularly stand out (or not in a good way).
